Dr. Althisha L. Matthews

Master Herbalist | Board-Certified Naturopathic Practitioner | Transpersonal Therapist

I was raised as the middle child of three by a resilient single mother whose strength profoundly shaped the trajectory of my life. From an early age, I developed emotional awareness, discipline, and a deep sense of responsibility. I became observant. Strategic. Protective. And quietly driven by a singular desire: to make my mother proud.

That desire evolved into purpose.

I began my professional journey in corporate America, where I cultivated strategic leadership, operational precision, and systems-based thinking. I learned how institutions function, how frameworks scale, and how structure sustains performance. Yet even while succeeding in that environment, I felt an undeniable calling beyond metrics and milestones. I did not simply want to achieve outcomes — I wanted to see people restored.

My transition into holistic healthcare was not accidental; it was deeply personal.

After more than three decades of living with diabetes, my mother began experiencing declining kidney function. Annual hospital stays had become routine. Dialysis was being discussed — a path she refused to accept after witnessing its toll on other family members. With two and a half months before her next nephrology appointment, she asked a question that would forever change my life: “Can you help me strengthen my kidneys naturally?”

With faith intact and discipline engaged, I immersed myself in the study of renal physiology, adrenal function, chronic stress response, and the cumulative impact of long-term pharmaceutical interventions. I researched botanicals known to support kidney filtration, reduce systemic inflammation, and enhance cellular resilience. We implemented therapeutic herbal protocols, transitioned from structured teas to concentrated tinctures, and executed strategic dietary and lifestyle adjustments.

Within that timeframe, her kidney function improved by 12 percent. She avoided dialysis. Today, she lives well and medication-free.

That experience crystallized my assignment.

As a Master Herbalist and Board-Certified Naturopathic Practitioner, my work is rooted in the belief that the body possesses innate intelligence designed for restoration when properly supported. As a Transpersonal Therapist, I recognize that healing extends beyond physiology. Illness rarely begins in the physical body alone. In my clinical philosophy, disease often originates as spiritual and emotional imbalance before manifesting physically.

What remains unresolved in the mind and spirit imprints upon the nervous system, disrupts hormonal regulation, and alters inflammatory pathways.

Mind health cascades into body health.

Healing requires alignment — mind, body, and soul.

My approach integrates herbal medicine, functional nutrition, transpersonal psychology, and lifestyle recalibration to address both the root and the response. I do not position natural medicine in opposition to conventional care. Instead, I envision a hybrid healthcare ecosystem — one where master herbalists, naturopathic practitioners, and functional nutritionists collaborate alongside surgeons, nurses, and medical specialists.

A model where prevention is prioritized.
Where compassion is foundational.
Where commitment to the patient outweighs profit.
Where individuals are treated as whole beings rather than fragmented diagnoses.

From supporting renal vitality to restoring womb health and addressing systemic imbalance, I approach this work with reverence. It is not merely a profession — it is a mandate. A sacred responsibility to serve those who feel unseen, unheard, or underserved.

What began as a daughter’s desire to protect her mother has evolved into a lifelong commitment to protecting families, restoring vitality, and creating pathways to comprehensive, integrative care.

This is not alternative medicine.
This is aligned medicine.
This is holistic restoration.

And I walk it with conviction.
